Microsoft officially ended support for Windows 10 in October 2025. If you’re still using a computer running Windows 10, you’re no longer getting security updates. That means new vulnerabilities that hackers discover won’t be patched.
This doesn’t mean your computer will stop working tomorrow. But it does mean the risk increases over time.
How to check what version you’re running
Click the Start button, type “About your PC” and hit Enter. Look for “Edition” and “Version.” If it says Windows 10, you’re affected.
Your options
Option 1: Upgrade to Windows 11. If your computer meets the hardware requirements, upgrading to Windows 11 is free. Not all computers qualify though. Microsoft has specific processor and security chip requirements.
Option 2: Keep using Windows 10 with extra caution. If your computer can’t run Windows 11, you can keep using it. Just be extra careful about what you click, keep your antivirus up to date, and know that you’re accepting some risk.
Option 3: Replace your computer. If your PC is 7 or 8 years old and can’t run Windows 11, this might be the right time for a new one. A new Windows 11 PC will be faster, more secure, and supported for years to come.
